Sometimes we get so worked up about making every blog post, every email, every everything we write so effective that we can get paralyzed. It feels intimidating so we put it off. And then suddenly we’ve let our audience down. Our blog goes unattended. Our email subscribers wonder if we’re still in business.
Here are a few steps to take the pressure off:
Start by thinking about what’s going on in the world, what time of year it is, and what’s on your mind when it comes to your area of expertise.
Now think about one, just one, of your real clients or customers.
Ask yourself: what would they want to hear from you that would actually offer value or help them in one small specific way?
Now write a message to them. Start there.
Next, modify what you wrote just enough to make it applicable to your broader audience. For an email that you can send to your whole list, keep the conversational aspect but remove any personal details. For a blog post, do some research and add some facts, links, or takeaways. Make things scannable while you’re at it.
Work backward and start small to get that writing underway!
